Ever wondered how your commuting experience differs to others? Each month we share the story of a real Cyclescheme cycle commuter and ask them questions to sum up their experience from their two-wheeled commute. This month, it's Leanne.
Each month we feature one Cyclescheme participant and share their commuting story. From John O'Groats to Lands End, we scour the country for the real cycle commuters who take to their bike each morning. If you'd like to feature on our website, just drop us a line on: socialmedia@cyclescheme.co.uk with "I'm in' in the subject line.
This month we caught up with Leanne to see how her commute has changed her life.
Where in the UK are you?
South Nottinghamshire
What was your main motivation for getting a bike through Cyclescheme?
My main motivation for getting a bike and cycling to work was so that my journey to work stops being a commute and starts being a hobby.
What bike did you get and why?
A Norco road bike, because I had a go on a road bike after borrowing a hybrid and it was just so much fun.
How often do you commute to work by bike?
I regularly cycle 4 days a week.
How has cycling affected your daily life - do you feel healthier? Have you saved money?
Cycling has become a big part of my life, it has enabled me to start my day feeling energised, take part in triathlons and feel much happier. It allows me to see things on my commute I wouldn't normally notice. Like a Buzzard sat in the tree right next to the road I cycle down every day, or a water vole zipping in and out of the long grass by the verge and baby rabbits growing through the seasons. I think I have saved money, it's 1,500km per year which I am not driving but I have also spent a bit on getting the right kit I 'need'.
